Kelsey Hanson, MSW, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

I hold a master’s degree in Social Work and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Colorado. I have over a decade of diverse experience in hospital, residential, and university settings. I also am experienced in supervising and managing clinical teams. To support both those who work with me as a therapist and supervisees, I prioritize quality, research-supported mental health services and have pursued multiple advanced certifications. I believe that effective therapy should not only be grounded in research and also tailored to meet each individual’s unique needs for healing.

I specialize in trauma recovery, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, somatic therapies, and dissociation. My advanced trainings includes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma and Tension Release Exercises (TRE), NeuroAffective Touch (NA Touch/NAT), and animal-assisted therapy. As a certified yoga instructor, I can integrate yoga into somatic interventions if desired. My practice is guided by attachment theory, neuroscience, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and a strength-based approach.

I have extensive experience working with survivors of both single-incident and complex trauma, including active duty military, veterans, and first responders. While trauma often plays a central role in what brings people to therapy, I believe that meaningful healing can take place without the need to delve into specific traumatic experiences. By focusing on present-day symptoms and resilience rather than the traumatic event(s) itself, I have witnessed individuals discover gentler, more instinctive paths to recovery compared to traditional trauma therapy that emphasizes processing traumatic events.

I have worked with individuals from various identities and backgrounds. I strive to educate myself and learn from others to provide psychotherapy that honors and respects those whose identities differ from my own. While many understandably prefer mental health providers who share similar identities, I recognize that this isn't always possible or everyone’s preference. I am committed to a continuous process of unlearning and learning to become a better mental health provider and advocate for those who choose to work with me

Outside of my profession as a Social Worker, I enjoy being active outdoors including hiking and canoeing trips, SUPing and camping. I cherish spending time in nature and have thoroughly enjoyed growing up around and working on farms. I have a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and enjoy many creative endeavors. I was also a NCAA softball athlete (pitcher) and coach. I try to stay connected with youth softball communities to encourage female athletes to develop further confidence in their physical and interpersonal presence and skills.
